Youth Director

Description of Position

The Director of Youth Ministry at SCV will be responsible for providing vision, leadership, and structure for our ministries to youth (grade 9 - grade 12). This includes overseeing the direction, content and execution of spiritual formation for SCV Youth in gathered settings (ie, Sunday mornings); developing and overseeing opportunities for SCV Youth to engage in sharing Jesus outside of church; overseeing attendance at Vineyard USA Youth events; recruiting, training and leading a team of volunteers to support this ministry; and creating a culture and space of support for caregivers of youth at SCV.

Qualifications

  • A follower of Jesus that is committed to cultivating an overflowing inner life with Him, is actively involved at SCV, promotes others above him/herself, and has a history of financial generosity in a local church.

    • Regular attendance at Spindle City Vineyard. Active participant in a life group.

    • Must uphold the doctrinal teaching of Vineyard USA and the vision of Spindle City Vineyard.

  • Character Requirements:

    • Must commit to lead from a place of listening to the Holy Spirit.

    • Must have a teachable disposition: able to receive direction and correction with grace.

    • Must strive to work honorably on a team, seeking unity and connection above self-interest.

  • General Requirements:

    • Must demonstrate a calling to the spiritual formation of youth. Prior experience is a plus, but not necessary.

    • Must demonstrate an ability to be innovative and self-motivated. We are a small church - creative thinking and pioneering are essential to working here.

    • Ability to recruit, train, and release individuals and teams that are well-equipped and energized for the roles they’ve volunteered for; able to provide long-term oversight as well.

    • Must communicate with clarity and consistency, be organized, able to work within a larger team that functions together to guide the church.

    • Able to work with a culturally/ethnically/racially/socio-economically diverse population.

    • Able to pass a background check. Has a valid NYS driver’s license or the ability to attain one should candidate currently reside outside of NYS.

  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, Servant Keeper, Google Suite, Planning Center, Email.

Responsibilities: 10 Hours / Week

  • Oversee Vineyard Youth (Sunday and Midweek Programming)

    • Choose and adapt a curriculum for our program. Provide it (and needed supplies) to teachers each week. Ensure they are prepared and supported for their work.

  • Oversee a team of Volunteers.

    • Develop a team for Sunday, midweek gathering, and special events.

    • Provide ongoing support, prayer, and training - develop a community for your volunteers.

    • Handle background checks and sexual abuse prevention training annually. Support a safe, monitored, and peaceful environment that allows our youth to flourish.

  • Oversee support for care givers.

    • Maintain healthy, connected relationships with each of the children and their families.

    • Create opportunities for support-group type gatherings where caregivers can pray, crowd source, learn, and grow together as they walk through similar seasons of life with youth.

Compensation: Starting rate is $18/hr.
